HC/SoComm – Iceskating with Alumni

Iceskating With Alumni, hosted by the Historian and Social Committees, was held on April 16th, 2010 at the Oakland Ice Center, a venue traditionally reserved for Broomball Night. It was an opportunity for the AAA committee members of Spring 2010 to mingle and bond with AAA Alumni who had dedicated tremendous time and effort to AAA during their time on cabinet. This was the second alumni event that the Historian Committee held this semester, and one of many successful socializing events held by the Social Committee.
To warm up in the icy environment, checklists with tasks were provided to guide interactions. Trading an article of clothing with someone was a popular task that had attendees swapping hoodies and jackets. Another popular task was picking up someone who had fallen down on the ice. While some were out to assist others, others assisted in making others fall. Although there were many who were experienced on skates and raced quickly around the rink, there were also quite a few members who were new to skating and developed a close relationship with the walls of the rink. Many beginners were offered numerous hands from AAA members, creating a warm scene reminiscent of the holidays.
Eric Pang, Internal Relations father of the family Chinpangzee, comments, “It was painful. I got a bruise on my knee that exists to this very day. *looks at knee* Is it still here? The pain was worth it though for a chance to see both past and present AAA members together at an event.” Although members walked away with bruises of all shapes and colors, they walked away with a wonderful experience.
